I wanted to let you know that my experience with your kitchen cabinet designer Crystal was wonderful. She really listened to what I needed and made an effort to stay within my guidelines while adding some nice surprises that enhanced the design. She was also quite fast (another challenge I was facing) and, best of all, was a real pleasure to work with!
There were benefits in becoming a member of DirectBuy. I use mostly the concierge. I renovated the interior of the house and kitchen. I bought appliances and couches. I also bought gifts for families from DirectBuy. It was a good experience and they have valued items.
We worked with Crystal ** on our cabinet project, and although the service was a little slower than we would have liked (but we understand it was a busy time for her), the end result ended up being exactly what we were looking for. She took all our suggestions and made it happen. We are also VERY impressed with the quality available from DirectBuy in regards to product. We had already priced out cabinets at local retailers and we not only got a better product, but Crystal was able to get us a cabinet that matched what we wanted EXACTLY. Thank you!
My purchasing experience with DirectBuy has been excellent and I love using the website. I'm sorry they closed the showroom that was nearest to my home, but I can still get things online. I've bought kitchen cabinets, outdoor furniture and so many other things. The quality of the products has been excellent and the cost in relation to the quality is unmatched. DirectBuy is a very good investment if you have large purchases, plan to do a lot of household things and want to save money. I'm totally pleased with them
It's going pretty well with DirectBuy, where we bought most of our stuff for a bathroom remodel we're doing right now. But the cabinets we ordered from them are a little bit delayed. I was given a name of a person that I needed to work with and I did contact him at the beginning of September and gave him all of my information, what we were looking for and a picture of exactly what we wanted. He responded back quickly as far as giving us dimensions for everything. By the time we went back and forth and delays, we didn't submit the order until September 24th. It was kind of surprising because we pretty much had everything wrapped up within a week from when I first emailed him, which was September 4th. So I would've expected the order be submitted much sooner. We had told him that we were planning on starting the project early to mid-October at the latest and really wanted everything in the house.
We still haven't heard anything so I emailed him last week and asked if we could have an update on our cabinetry and I have not heard anything back. Our remodeling is actually a little delayed which is why I'm not too concerned about the cabinetry. So we got time yet. Also, it's harder to purchase from Directbuy than it used to be 'cause we used to be able to go to the location, look through books and talk to people. We did our kitchen through DirectBuy four years ago almost, and there was a woman that we sat down with, and we went through all the cabinetry and all of her recommendations and drawings. It was so much simpler because we could actually talk with somebody physically right there and go through the project.
Direct Buy is a rip-off. As Antss said, they are just middlemen, so you are paying an unnecessary cost for an additional middleman, and you are paying an upfront fee that you will not make back (even if it was your MIL that made that unwise investment). Directbuy will also charge you additional if you need any kitchen design with your cabinet order. The upshot is that you can easily find equal or lower prices by looking for information on this forum on cabinet companies, or going to your local retail stores. Furthermore, you will also find better and wider selection of brands and models by shopping on your own on the internet. And your MIL will never recoup the $2500 upfront fee or any renewal fees or add-on fees they've charged her.
I found a lot of negative comments on directbuy, so I never joined, but scottielee on this forum has one of the most breathtakingly gorgeous kitchens I have ever seen, and his cabinets are from direct buy. See link below. ps I have NOTHING to do with scottielee or direct buy.
We also plan to purchase our Cabico cabinets, induction cooktop, refrigerator, warming drawer, fridge drawers, vent hood, light fixtures and window coverings through them. The savings will be massive. All these appliances will also have an upgraded 5yr extended warranty for a fraction of what these warranties usually cost.
Just saw this.... do NOT do a new kitchen layout through Direct Buy unless you have an exceptional installer that you consult with the entire way through. Depending on our area, they will only work with your measurements. They will not come out an see the space. The main designer I had did not give me any of the side spacer sheets between cabinets and the wall, which yes, are not necessary, but make the cabinets open and close a bit better and look nicer. My installer asked for these. (he was fabulous) Also, the OTF cabinet was to large/deep for the crown moulding I picked so the installer had to modify this otherwise it would have stuck out in an odd sort of way away from the corner pantry which my fridge is next to. Now, stuff happens okay... Thank god I had a good installer who found workarounds. To me the thing that upset me the most is none of the designers I had on the Direct Buy side (I had to work with two different ones because of unforeseen illness) bothered to determine where the electrical boxes / outlets would go on the Island. I had two outlets planned and was super tight for space. Well, an out let would not go into the dishwasher would it? And on both ends I had ordered beautiful and expensive panel finishing. So just bore a hole through that I guess was the designers idea? Just sloppy I thought overall. Luckily I had barely enough room to extend the island enough to get the outlet in beside the dishwasher and beside the cabinet beside the dishwasher and cabinet so it looks truly lovely. That was my installer who did this, not Direct Buy.
